An empty wastebasket.

The wastebasket is entirely empty - there isn't even a bag lining it. There is, however, fingerprinting powder all over it.

"Detective Gumshoe," you say, furrowing your brow, "do you know when the trash was last emptied?"

"About two hours before the murder, the guy on cleaning duty emptied it and replaced the bag. I thought that was weird that the bag was gone, so I had it fingerprinted."

"What did you find?"

"I can't go leaking that!" says Gumshoe, "It's confidential!"

(Then why did you tell me you had the wastebasket fingerprinted in the first place? But I'd better add this to my notes.)
